My dishwasher is not working now. It’s only two years old! It looks like it’s not filling with water. I researched the issue and the most likely cause is a broken water inlet valve, which is supposedly easy to replace so I ordered one. It set me back $66, but will be worth it if it fixes the problem because a service call is around $100. I felt it was worth the gamble. It’s supposed to be here tomorrow, so I think I’ll let the dishes pile up and see what happens.
onion fail
I ordered onion plants from Burpee and for whatever reason, they shipped them a month late. I got them into the ground as soon as I could but that wasn’t good enough. They are currently ready to harvest and most of them are too small to be usable. I would have been better off buying onion sets locally. They usually don’t perform as well as the plants, but I bet with the extra time the results would have been better.
oven blues
I went to Krisay’s this afternoon to order a new gas range. I had a particular model in mind and it, of course, is on backorder. They said it might be 6 weeks but they wouldn’t commit to anything. Ugh. At least it’s grilling season. I don’t use the oven a whole lot in the summer, but sometimes you have to bake something, you know?
Home Depot has it in stock and deliverable by mid-month. I’m not sure how they have it and Krisay’s can’t get it. I prefer to shop local, when possible, so I’m going to hold out, but if the end of summer rolls around and I still don’t have an oven, Home Depot will be getting my money.
homeland
This was really great political thriller, centered around bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison and her mentor Saul Berenson (who played Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride–a fact I cannot get over). It was mostly about the conflicts in the Middle East, but near the end of the series, they threw some Russians in for good measure. Practically every episode was a cliffhanger and I couldn’t get enough of the show. I’m going to miss it.
My rating: 4.5/5
stove
Well, my stove is broken. It’s the oldest of my appliances, so I guess I should not be surprised, seeing that I’ve replaced everything else in the past few years. It was 9 years old, so you think it would have lasted a little longer than that. I tried using the oven over the weekend and got an error code–it will not heat up. There are other issues with it as well and it wasn’t very expensive to begin with so I figure it’s probably best to buy new at this point. I was planning on buying a new stove next year as I have a mini kitchen remodel planned so this isn’t terrible news.
