Last night we had the annual birthday extravaganza to celebrate my mom’s, dad’s, and grandmother’s birthdays. We had dinner at Rizzo’s and then went to my grandmother’s for cupcakes afterward. I’m supposed to be the official birthday cake maker, but I still haven’t heard from Krisay’s about the oven I inquired about so very long ago. I guess it’s time to look elsewhere. Home Depot has had the same model in stock this whole time and Best Buy has it as well, so I plan on placing an order this week.
the weekend
My mom wanted to try a new restaurant in Hollidaysburg and also visit an alpaca farm, so I took Friday off work and we did that in the afternoon. The food at Mayfield was quite good–I’d go back again sometime. And, Lilly Mountain Alpacas was definitely worth a visit. We got to see all of the alpacas (including a baby) and we checked out their store. They had a lot of knitted things for sale (made with alpaca yarn, of course) and also yarn. I bought some sock yarn for myself. It was a nice afternoon!
On Saturday, I met up with guy #4 (yes, that’s still a thing) after he got home from work. Normally, we don’t get to see each other on Saturdays because he has his kids, but they had something else going on that weekend. We watched some tv (we’re currently watching The Big Bang Theory–which he has seen before and I have not) and ordered a delicious charcuterie platter from Franklin Street Bar & Grill.
On Sunday, we went for a hike on part of the Jim Mayer Riverswalk Trail and then had brunch at my house. For supper, we made pizza on the grill and then hung out the rest of the evening. I am out of practice with the grilled pizza, but despite some hiccups, it still turned out well.
It was a good weekend, but I got nothing else done! I guess I’ll have to make up for that this week.
c is for corpse
You guessed it–another one from Sue Grafton’s alphabet series. I liked it well enough. All of the books follow the same basic format–some crime was committed and the main character, a female private investigator, has to figure it out.

jungle cruise
Date a guy with two young kids, and you get to watch all of the Disney+ movies. This is what we did last night. We were supposed to go to the Roxbury Bandshell to watch a band, but his ex did not pick the kids up on time and it also rained (so the show was probably canceled anyway). It was also too late to catch a movie at the theater and I couldn’t find anything else to do (and I used to be the queen of what there is to do in Johnstown, so I have connections). I don’t think the area has recovered from COVID yet–even the few restaurants that are open on Sundays close at 8.

dishwasher update
The appliance repair guy took a look at my dishwasher yesterday. As I suspected, the motor needs to be replaced, which is a bit expensive to do. It’s going to cost about half what I paid for the dishwasher. Ugh. But, I guess that’s cheaper than buying a new one. Let’s hope the new motor lasts longer than the old one.
