the shed

I have been “painting” the shed for about 6 weeks and finally finished the job this evening. I say “painting” because it was a little more than that. To make painting easier, I took the glass out of the window frames, including the transom window (which completely fell apart–the glue joints failed–so it had to be resassembled). I also replaced the broken latch hardware and removed and repainted the hinges. Couple this with my limited free time, my hatred of painting, and the two coats that needed to be applied, and that explains the length of time it took me to complete the project.

I am glad to be done with it, as you can imagine. I really wanted to get started earlier (and hence finish earlier), but the weather did not cooperate until mid-May.

The new paint really makes the ramp look bad (and it looks even worse in person), so I’m thinking about replacing those boards with composite decking. I’ll probably do that this year, but it’ll depend on the cost. I haven’t looked into it at all yet. The new paint is not doing much for the roof, either. I don’t think the brown goes very well with the green, but that is a temporary problem as the roof is almost 20 years old and is going to need replaced in the next few years. And, that brings up a question–what color to use for the roof and ramp (I’m thinking the should probably be in the same vein)? I’m thinking something neutral in case I want to change the shed color again down the road. Maybe a medium gray? I will have to do some Google image research on that. And, perhaps, get Jake to work some Photoshop magic.

Now it’s time to get back to my regularly scheduled weeding.

the shining

I’ve seen this one before, of course. Probably multiple times. The same goes for the book. While Stephen King might not be a fan of this adaptation, I still think it’s a great movie, even after all these years. Jack Nicholson is in fine form in this one.

Since I’m running out of things in my queue, I’ve decided to rewatch some of my old favorites that I haven’t seen in a while.

brunch

I had Jake’s girlfriend (Amelia) and her mom over for brunch yesterday. Those were the first non-family members I’ve entertained in years. Between getting divorced, and then covid, it wasn’t very feasible until recently. Anyway, Jake kept telling me how much I’d like Amelia’s mom and I really did–she’s great! It was a nice afternoon and I was happy the forecasted rain held off, as we brunched outside.

land

This was a pretty good movie, starring (and directed by) Robin Wright. I’ve been a fan of Robin Wright since Santa Barbara (which probably was not her best work. haha). The movie was about a woman who goes to live off grid after losing her husband and son. Needless to say, she runs into some issues along the way. Demian Bichir was also in the movie. I like him a lot, too. He was on Weeds, though I haven’t seen him in much since then.

captured

Sylvia was nowhere to be found Friday morning at feeding time. After Jake got up and she wasn’t with him, I started to worry. No one had seen her since snack time the previous night (around 10pm). I looked everywhere in the house, but could not find her. I went outside and didn’t see her anywhere either. After supper, Jake put some of her food on the front porch, where we have a Ring camera, in the hopes that we’d at least see her at some point. Jake told Brian that she was missing so he came over to join the search. He looked under the shed and in the neighbor’s back yard and hedges, but she was still nowhere to be found. As he was leaving, I walked out to the front of the house with him and there she was eating her food on the porch! As soon as she saw us, she went behind the shrubs that run along the front of the house. But, I was able to coax her out with some food. And that was that. She was probably pretty hungry as she’d been gone almost 24 hours. Anyway, I’m glad she made it back home safely.
