I watched the third movie in this series Friday night. These are all based on “true” stories if you believe in that sort of nonsense. In either case, I did like the movie–maybe not as much as the previous ones–but I was still entertained.

Edit: I forgot to mention the scene that featured Blondie’s excellent song, “Call Me”. It was definitely the best scene of the movie and made the movie worth watching just to see it.
This was a pretty good movie. The story was very reminiscent of the Amanda Knox headlines from a few years ago. I just Googled it and it was indeed the inspiration for the movie.

I went to see this band last night at the Oilhouse. It was not a free show, but was definitely worth the money! Katie Henry is a blues artist, which is my favorite kind of live music. Also, how can you beat going to a show in Johnstown?
There are two more concerts scheduled for this weekend–more freebies, but I don’t think I’m going to make it to either. I need to get caught up on things around the house after being on vacation last week. Tomorrow night’s concert is zydeco music, which is not something I listen to (but maybe I’d like it? I guess we’ll never know.). And Sunday afternoon, a local artist I like is playing in Central Park, but I have to go to an “unofficial” humane society board meeting right before it, so I don’t want to blow the whole afternoon. Also, who knows how long the board meeting will take.
I do have tickets for another show next Saturday. After going to all of these concerts this summer, I might have to schedule some in Greensburg this winter or I’ll be going through live music withdrawal.
It has been a while, so I re-read this book while on vacation. It was so good! Coincidentally, I decided to rewatch the movie, too, and received it right before vacation and watched it last night. The movie was great as well, but felt a little dated (in its defense, it is 31 years old). And knowing what’s going to happen definitely takes something away from it–it was not quite so terrifying this time.
I did find it interesting how they simplified the plot a bit. They didn’t change too much, but they did completely remove some of the sub-plots that were in the book. The biggest change, though, was probably the most famous line of the movie, “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.” In the book, the wine was Amarone. I guess they didn’t think people would know what that was.
Jake, his girlfriend, and the dogs joined me on vacation this year. We did the usual relaxing stuff plus went to “The Muck” to check out the wildlife, and Wellsboro for shopping and some diner pie. We also went out for wood-fired pizza the last day.
Our cabin had a pond and Tilly really enjoyed swimming in it. Ralphie not so much–he has heavy bones! He did enjoy splashing around in the water and then doing some zoomies–but only the one time.
The property had 200 acres and a bunch of hunting trails in the woods. One day, I took the dogs for a walk and we saw a bear! It wasn’t super close but close enough to identify. It tried to run away from us (bears are super fast) but was going in the same direction for a bit. Eventually it cut across our path and went deeper into the woods. That was more excitement than I needed. I guess it’s pretty rare to see a bear in the woods.
The cabin was really nice. I’d definitely stay there again.
Hopefully all of us can go on vacation again next year!
