I had Jake’s girlfriend (Amelia) and her mom over for brunch yesterday. Those were the first non-family members I’ve entertained in years. Between getting divorced, and then covid, it wasn’t very feasible until recently. Anyway, Jake kept telling me how much I’d like Amelia’s mom and I really did–she’s great! It was a nice afternoon and I was happy the forecasted rain held off, as we brunched outside.

This was a pretty good movie, starring (and directed by) Robin Wright. I’ve been a fan of Robin Wright since Santa Barbara (which probably was not her best work. haha). The movie was about a woman who goes to live off grid after losing her husband and son. Needless to say, she runs into some issues along the way. Demian Bichir was also in the movie. I like him a lot, too. He was on Weeds, though I haven’t seen him in much since then.
My rating: 3.5/5

Sylvia was nowhere to be found Friday morning at feeding time. After Jake got up and she wasn’t with him, I started to worry. No one had seen her since snack time the previous night (around 10pm). I looked everywhere in the house, but could not find her. I went outside and didn’t see her anywhere either. After supper, Jake put some of her food on the front porch, where we have a Ring camera, in the hopes that we’d at least see her at some point. Jake told Brian that she was missing so he came over to join the search. He looked under the shed and in the neighbor’s back yard and hedges, but she was still nowhere to be found. As he was leaving, I walked out to the front of the house with him and there she was eating her food on the porch! As soon as she saw us, she went behind the shrubs that run along the front of the house. But, I was able to coax her out with some food. And that was that. She was probably pretty hungry as she’d been gone almost 24 hours. Anyway, I’m glad she made it back home safely.
birthday weekend
I had Friday off work, so I got to enjoy two long weekends in a row! If only every weekend was a long weekend. I did a lot of painting and gardening over the course of the three days. The weather was so beautiful! On Friday, I tried out my new pizza oven. I will tweak a few things the next time I use it, but, for my first try, I was pretty happy with how the pizzas turned out.
On my actual birthday (Sunday), I tried not to do too much work around the house (though I did do a little). I started off the day by drinking my morning coffee by the pond and also read a book for a little while. After lunch, Jake and I took the dogs for a walk on the Jim Mayer Riverswalk Trail. They were nice and tired after that. That evening, I finished planting my garden (which is technically one of my favorite hobbies, so it doesn’t count as work).
holiday weekend!
I took Friday off work to further extend the holiday weekend. I was hoping to get some stuff done outside, but it rained all morning. I’m in the middle of painting the shed and really want to be done with it, so that was disappointing. I did get to paint in the late afternoon before it started raining again. I also started to harden off some of the plants that will go in the garden, but I’m waiting until the weather cools off a bit mid-week before transplanting them. Finally, Jake left for vacation with his girlfriend’s family after lunch and won’t be back until next Saturday!
Saturday was just the usual stuff (walking dogs, laundry, housework).
My brother had a cookout on Sunday afternoon so I went over there for a few hours to celebrate the holiday.
This morning, I managed to finish the 2nd coat on the siding portion of the shed, but I still have the trim and windows left to do (and I need to patch a bunch of carpenter bee holes before doing so). I sat outside for a little while this afternoon and finished reading a book. I was in the shade, but it was still really hot! Supper’s currently on the grill and after dinner, it’s more yard work!
