I’ve been rewatching some old favories and this one hit the spot. It’s never as good as the first time, but this held up really well. And it starred a young Brad Pitt (during his Gwyneth Paltrow phase–what’s with him dating his co-stars?!?)! Yes, the plot was pretty far-fetched, but still very engaging. Serial killers are never as clever or interesting in real life as they are in the movies, are they?

the weekend

I had an extra long weekend, as I took off Thursday and Friday. Thursday, I went to the Flight 93 National Memorial. Friday, I made a Home Depot run in the morning and then baked and frosted a birthday cake in the afternoon.

Saturday, my family went to Rizzo’s to celebrate my Mom’s, Dad’s and Grandmother’s birthdays (hence the cake). And today, Jake asked me to go to the Art Walk in the Park with him because his girlfriend’s brother was doing pet drawings there (Jake got a nice one of Tilly!).

I did a bunch of other things, too, of course, mostly chores around the house. And a few naps.

It was a pretty busy weekend and I can’t believe summer is coming to an end. I’m not a fan of the winter, but it is nice having less things to do. The yard and garden take up so much of my time, not to mention outside projects that need to be done.

the plot

I really liked this book! It was written by Jean Hanff Korelitz, who wrote the book the HBO Series The Undoing was based on. Anyway, I thought the book was a little slow at the beginning, but it had an interesting premise (an author writes a best selling novel, the plot of which is based on a deceased individual’s idea for a novel, and then some anonymous person accuses him of plagiarism). I didn’t know there was goinog to be a huge plot twist, so I didn’t see that coming until I was right on top of it. Now that I know about it, I feel like I should have figured it out earlier. But, it’s kind of nice to be surprised for a change.

I especially liked how the author interspersed chapters of the “plagarized” novel within the novel. Very clever.

flight 93 national memorial

I visited the memorial yesterday. I was there once before when it first opened, but it was pretty much just a field at that point. I was quite impressed with what they did. Though I was disappointed that I didn’t get to hear the chimes from the Tower of Voices as it wasn’t windy enough, so I’ll probably visit again in the future.

What am I going to do without my daily dose of drama from the Pearsons? This was a really great show! I loved how they did the flashbacks (and flash forwards) and the casting of the characters at different ages was impeccable–as was the makeup they did on the main characters to age them. I can’t even imagine how complicated this was to write–did they come up with the whole storyline from start to end or did they just make things up as they went along (including the supporting flashbacks)? Who knows! Plus, parts of the story were set in Pittsburgh. How cool is that?
