thanksgiving week

It’s been a busy week! Sylvia had a dental cleaning scheduled for Tuesday morning. She did well with it, but they had to extract a tooth (a pre-molar). That was an expensive trip!

Wednesday morning, Jake went to his home office, which is in the former family room, and there was blood tracked all over the place. At first we thought it was Syliva-related since they said to watch out for bleeding from the extraction. But, I found a broken glass behind the bar and it turns out Sylvester was the culprit. He cut one of his paws, but it had stopped bleeding by this point and he seemed to be fine, so we avoided a second trip to the vet.

Wednesday, I took off work to prep for Thanksgiving and then we had an early Thanksgiving dinner here yesterday. Everything turned out nice and everyone appeared to have a good time.

My office is closed today so I’m just doing things around the house. I have wrapped up my online Christmas shopping and am making some turkey stock from yesterday’s turkey bones, which will be turned into Turkey-Kielbasa Soup with Wild Rice (a recipe that I invented last year and is apparently my new delicious tradition) tomorrow.

catching up

Last week, I wrapped up the last of three mixology classes I took at Penn Highlands. The classes were pretty basic, but it was still fun and I picked up a couple tips. They’re planning on having one-day classes for St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo next year, so I may attend one or both if it works with my schedule.

Yesterday, I volunteered at the humane society’s annual Cash Bash. Richland Fire Hall was packed–it was sold out before the day of, but I guess it always does that. People were trying to get in before the doors opened–I guess some people are really into this sort of thing. Everyone did appear to have a good time. My job was to sell tickets for the high-end baskets. Business was pretty brisk until the food was served, then it slowed down to a trickle after that. I stuck around until the end and helped cleaned up before heading home.

Today, I painted the hall and foyer. You’d think that would be an easy job, but the hall has 5 trimmed doorways (so that was a lot of cutting in to do)! It took a bit longer than I had anticipated. I did the foyer first and it was pretty easy except for the glass block cubbies, which were a little time-consuming. I went with Poetic Light for the color. While it is not the same as the previous color (a creamy white), you probably wouldn’t notice the difference unless I told you or if you’re really observant.

It has been a busy month! And, of course, Thanksgiving is this week, so I’ll catch a little break from work (I’m off Wednesday through Friday).

dracula

More Dracula! I’m all Dracula’ed out. This time it was the 1992 movie. I’m not sure why Hollywood felt that this classic story needed to be turned into a love story, but here we are. The movie was pretty good, though.

My rating: 3.5/5

the tooth chronicles

I had my bi-annual dental cleaning appointment this morning. All was well except I chipped a tooth at some point over the summer and recently it became sensitive to cold. I had a pretty good idea what that meant, but the dentist confirmed it this morning–I’m going to need another crown. Coincidentally, it’s the same tooth I had crowned this year, but on the other side. Ugh. Anyway, it doesn’t need to happen right away as it’s not bothering me that much. The previous tooth bothered me for a couple of years before I got it fixed, so we’ll see how this one goes. At least I know that expense is coming, so I’ll be able to put away some money for it before it happens.

dining room

As I previously mentioned, I’m doing some painting at the house this winter. I painted the dining room Elephant Skin on Sunday. I really like how it turned out, though it does make the room a lot darker, but I’m ok with that. I still have to paint the window trim (white)–maybe this weekend. I was hoping to get the living room done before Christmas, but that’s not looking good as I relized I will have Christmas decorations out all December and I’m not going to want to move all of that stuff in order to paint. So, January, maybe?
