You know, Billy Bob Thornton might be a weirdo, but he’s a pretty good actor. He wrote, directed, and starred in this movie. We watched it over the course of two evenings this week. For whatever reason, I enjoyed the first half of the movie more than the second, but overall, we both liked it. I think the tail end of the movie was slightly less enjoyable because we figured out how it was going to end and that took some steam out of it.

It was a story of a mentally handicapped man who was released from a mental institution after being there from the age of 12 for the murder of his mother and her boyfriend. After being released, he befriended this 12 year old boy who takes him home to meet his mother. The boy’s mother lets the guy stay in her garage. It wasn’t clear what era the movie took place in, but we were guessing more recent times, so that part seemed a little unbelievable. But, hey, maybe that’s how they do things in Arkansas. What do I know? Anyway, the boy’s mother has a abusive boyfriend and to avoid giving away the ending, let’s just say, things go downhill from there.

no more wireless woes?

I mentioned before that we were having some issues with our wireless setup after I changed the security on it. Well, things kept getting worse (meaning, they started to affect my laptop, too) so I finally bit the bullet and upgraded the firmware on our wireless access point. It’s been running for a few days now without a hitch, so I think I finally have things fixed. Though our wireless connection (as displayed in the system tray) seems to refresh more than it did before (I’m blaming that on the new security). But, at least it’s working now.

This movie was ok. For all of the controversy surrounding it, you would think it would’ve been great. While somewhat entertaining, at times I felt like I was being taught a history of Christianity lesson. I kind of wish I would’ve read the book first. That might have saved me the trouble of watching the movie.

nothing doing

I feel like I have not accomplished a thing in the past week. With my new job, I’ve been working a little later than I did on my previous job because the people I’m working on my project with are in the Central time zone. So, by the time I get off work, it’s time to make supper. Till we eat and I clean the kitchen and do some other housework, it’s 8:00 or 9:00. But, I’m sure I’ll adjust–it’s only been a week. Luckily, we have no plans for the weekend, so I should be able to get caught up around the house.

This working at home all the time thing is interesting–I have not left the property since last Sunday. I should probably get out more. Maybe if the weather wasn’t so crappy, I would.

first day

Today was my first day at my new job. As expected, things were a little overwhelming at first, but I’m sure I’ll get into the swing of things shortly. The new company provided me with a really nice computer setup. I was quite impressed. They seem to have the technology thing going on. I guess if you run a virtual office, as they do, you need to have some things in place. Anyway, I’m looking forward to completing my first project, which is due in a few weeks.

One bad thing that came out of this weekend was that I had to change our wireless security to meet the company standards. It seems like any time I change anything on our network, it screws up the wireless on Brian’s laptop. I’ve been struggling with this for two days now. Moments ago (during one of his brief times of internet connectivity), I loaded a new driver for his wireless card. I’m hoping that fixes the issue. Since he shut of the laptop before we were able to make a determination, I guess I’ll find out tomorrow. Time for bed.
