inside out

Jake recommended this movie to me, so I watched it last night. It was a kids’ movie (from Pixar), but it was pretty good for all ages. In fact, I’d say most kids probably wouldn’t get it, though they still might be entertained by it.

In other weekend news, Brian and I painted the office bathroom walls yesterday. I still have some touch-up work to do, but it’s looking pretty good. And, the extra set of hands definitely made that job go fast.

This evening, I invited my parents and brother over for dinner. I made a roast chicken recipe from Valerie Bertinelli’s Indulge, which my mom got me for Christmas. I’ve made several recipes from it, and all have been good.

This is shaping up to be a good week. The temps are supposed to be in the 60s for a few days, and I’m also going to a concert this week!

spring?

I haven’t had a robin sighting yet, but today marks the first day my yard hasn’t had any snow or ice in it since December. What a winter! This was definitely the worst in a long time, but still milder than it used to be way back when. We have been spoiled by the mild winters of the past few years.

you hurt my feelings

The only reason I watched this is that I like Julia-Louis Dreyfuss. It was a story of an author (Dreyfuss) who overhears her husband’s negative critique of her latest novel. This causes some friction in the marriage, as you can imagine. It was a dramedy so it wasn’t too intense. I’d say it was pretty realistic.

what happened to the bennetts

Lisa Scottoline has been changing the type of books that she writes. They’re still thrillers, but there’s less of a legal angle to them (though the main character in this book was a court reporter). In this book, an apparent carjacking gone wrong puts a family in the witness protection program. And the father takes matters into his own hands with the help of one of the FBI agents assigned to his family’s case.

impromptu outing

Last night, I was getting settled in for the evening when I received a text from one of my friends asking if I wanted to go out for a drink. I didn’t really want to. I’m not much for spontaneity, and I was already in my pajamas, but I didn’t have a good excuse to stay in, so I went. Plus, it has been a while since I’ve done something social, which was another factor. It was rough finding a place that was open, though. It’s crazy how all the bars/restaurants are still closing early (this phenomenon first started during COVID). But The Fifth came to the rescue. They were open until 2 AM, and we nearly closed the bar. I got home around 1:30, and there was only one person left in the bar when we walked out. We got there around 10, and it was completely packed at that point. It was great catching up in person, but hopefully, the next time we get together, it will be at an earlier hour!
