the lightning rod

This was a thriller by the author Brad Meltzer. It’s from his “Zig & Nola” series. The book was ok, but it was trying too hard: most of the characters had unusal names; then there was the twist at the end that came out of nowhere. I think I will pass on future novels from this author.

the leftovers

What a great show this was! I usually don’t watch stuff straight through (I take a break now and then to watch other shows, movies, etc.), but I couldn’t stop watching this one. It doesn’t hurt that it was only 3 seasons, so it didn’t take very long to watch. The series told the story of what happened after the Sudden Departure, where 2% of the world’s population vanished. Beyond that, I can’t even explain it as it was a super complex story. But, so interesting!

the fifth

I met up with Carol at The Fifth last night. It hasn’t been too long since we last went out, but it was still nice to catch up.

What a busy week it’s been! I feel like I haven’t been home since September. In addition to all my social outings this week, I also had a board meeting one evening and a vet appointment one morning. I’m looking forward to my activity-free weekend.

date #3

Our third date was delayed by a week. We went to Oliver’s Pourhouse in Greensburg for dinner last night and had a nice time, like always. We have plans to go out again next week, so there’s that!

beetlejuice

The State Theater is having their annual Halloween Spooktacular again this October, so I bought tickets for a couple movies in order to support their efforts. That theater is really going to be something once they refurbish it. The first one, Beetlejuice, was tonight. I’ve seen it before, of course, but it’s been a while, so I figured why not? There were so many good actors in that film. And, so young (back in 1988)! Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder.
