nyad

This was a movie about Diana Nyad’s controversial 2013 swim from Cuba to Florida. Controversy or not, it was an entertaining movie. It’s also good to see Jodie Foster acting again (in this and True Detective).

stairwell

I painted the upper portion of the stairwell leading to the family room. So, check that one off the list. I used the same color as the hall and foyer, Poetic Light. This means the main floor of my house has been completely painted…except for the closets. I’m thinking about doing closet organizers in (at least some of) them, so those might have to wait for a while. I definitely won’t be painting any more rooms in my house until next winter. The library was recently painted and I’m not doing Jake’s upstairs bedroom until he completely moves out so I guess the basement area (family room, extra room, laundry room, and bathroom) is up next.

But, don’t worry–there’s still other stuff to paint. I’ve decided to tackle a project at the office and I’m going to repaint the kitchen. The whole office is due for a repainting, but it’ll probably take me a few years to get it all done because I’m not highly motivated to do it, like I am with my house. The kitchen is the worst of it as there are some cracks and other things that need fixed first, so I’ll be getting started on that soon.

after anna

Another thriller by Lisa Scottoline. The first part of the book was pretty good, and the first twist was clever. But then there were a bunch more twists, and those felt rather forced. In any case, it was a real page-turner.

griselda

I had high hopes for this limited series since it was created by the same team that brought us Narcos. Unfortunately, it fell a little flat. And it did not do justice to showing what a truly horrible person Griselda Blanco was, but I blame this on the writers and not the actors. It was interesting to see Sofia Vergara in the title role, though. I’ve only seen her on Modern Family, and not in a dramatic role such as this one. I thought she did a good job. They tried to make her ugly for the role (by using face prosthetics, fake teeth, etc.), but honestly, she still looked pretty good, especially by way of comparison.

a slow fire burning

This was another book full of unlikeable characters. It was written by Paula Hawkins, who also wrote The Girl on the Train. For some reason I always get her confused with Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) and JP Delaney (The Girl Before). Maybe it’s less about their writing style and more about the fact that three of their books have the word “girl” in the title. The should collaborate on the novel called Before the Gone Girl on the Train.
