gerald’s game

I watched this adaptation of the Stephen King novel last night and found it to be quite good. Granted, it’s not the best Stephen King story of a person tethered to a bed (that would be Misery), but I was pleasantly surprised nonetheless (so many of his great stories have been made into horrible movies). It has been quite some time since I have read the novel, but I think it followed it pretty closely.

the more you know

When I had those issues with my old washing machine recently, I did a Google search to see if I had any recourse. I didn’t, really. I could have written to Whirlpool and they might have opted to fix it, but that wasn’t too likely. But, I did see something about certain credit cards offering an extended warranty on items that were purchased for the card. I totally forgot about that! I looked into it and, lo and behold, my credit card did indeed offer an extended warranty on purchases. It was just an extra year, but that covered the price of the service call and parts and I was happy to get the reimbursement. And, I got in just under the buzzer, as I bought the washer two years ago this December.

And, it makes me feel better about my dishwasher purchase from earlier this year and my refrigerator purchase from this month, knowing that they’ll also have their warranties extended by a year.

long shot

I watched this amusing comedy over the weekend. It was about a guy (played by Seth Rogan playing the same character as always) who reunites with his high school crush 25 years later, who happens to be the Secretary of State (played by Charlize Theron).

bird box (book)

You know how I feel about reading books after watching the movie…nevertheless, this was a pretty engrossing read. Since it hasn’t been that long since I’ve watched the movie, I was able to recall a few things from the plot and they followed each other pretty closely. Much like the movie, I enjoyed the book. I wanted to keep reading it, so that says something. And, I’m done right in time for Christmas, where I’ll hopefully get some new books to read (hint, hint).

new appliance day

After troubleshooting my refrigerator issues and finding that it was not anything simple, I opted to get a new fridge instead of having mine fixed. The fridge was 19 years old, so putting money into it didn’t seem like a good idea. While I was at Krisay’s, I ended up getting a new washer, too. They were having a warranty special on Speed Queen washers (which are commercial grade-ish) that extended the warranty to 10 years! Also, I got a partial credit for the service call on my washer and I would save a delivery fee by having both appliances delivered at the same time. So, it seemed like a good idea because we all know that the washer was going to need to be replaced soon anyway.

Both appliances were delivered today. The new fridge is awesome. I really like it. I got almost everything moved into it. It seems like it has more room than my old one. Maybe it’s just a perception thing since it’s a French door model and my old one was a side-by-side. The washer had two dents in the front panel. Can you believe it? They installed it but are ordering a new panel so they’ll have to come back to install that. I didn’t have to wash anything today, so I can’t comment on it further.

I’m not happy to have spent all of that money, especially with everything that’s been going on this year, but hopefully this will be it for a while.
