the uninsured

Our health insurance ended with my job last week. Our new health insurance doesn’t start till next Monday, since I am taking this week off. I was hoping we wouldn’t have any health-related issues in the interim, but today Jake woke up with a red, gunky eye. I took him to the eye doctor’s, which cost $25. He was diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis. He needed a prescription for eye drops, which cost $80 (but, we got a bonus of $1 off on our next gas purchase at GetGo for some reason, so not all was lost). This little episode certainly doesn’t justify spending the $1800 on COBRA for the week, but let’s just hope we don’t get to that point.
